Hey you

Welcome to our blog. Here you’ll find daily dispatches and all the musings of our family’s adventures in our small town as we raise our kids, fix up our farm, and renovate houses. Thanks for stopping by! We’re so glad you’re here.

After Six Years in Our Home, We’re Slowly Starting to Redecorate

After Six Years in Our Home, We’re Slowly Starting to Redecorate

It seems like we’re constantly making changes around our house. Moving furniture, buying a new lamp, hanging a new piece of art. But after being in our home for six years, we both are feeling the itch to make even bigger changes around here.

We’ve started the year off by finally doing things to the house that we’ve wanted to do for years but have always put off for one reason or another. The reason we’re making these changes is a fun one, and I can reveal it in a few more weeks, but for the time being, we’re enjoying making creative decisions on our own home instead of a rental or a flip home like we’ve been doing the last few years.

I will always be pro-redecorating. I see nothing wrong with making changes to a room/rooms after a few years of living with them a certain way. It stretches your creativity in new ways and keeps things fun and interesting around the house. When we moved into this house, we were at a different time in our lives (newly married, no kids), so we’re making changes to suit where we’re at now and ones that better reflect our design style as it’s evolved over the years.

So far, here’s what’s made the redecorating list:

  • Paint the kitchen

  • Paint the hall bath

  • Hang curtains in the office

  • Paint our bedroom/hang new curtains/new rug

  • Hang curtains in the living room (shown above, more on those soon!)

  • Hang new art in the living room

  • Re-do the upstairs guest bedroom (new paint, art, furniture, adding moulding to the ceiling)

  • Add more storage to the kids’ bathroom

  • Hang blinds and art in kids’ bathroom

  • New mirrors in kids’ bathroom

  • Add wallpaper somewhere in our home (living room? laundry room?)

I’m sure this list will change as we go along, but so far, we’ve already checked quite a few things off just in the last few weeks.

Making all of these changes has me falling in love with our house all over again. It’s like we’re moving in for the first time and I’m enjoying all the rooms for their uniqueness and everything that makes them special. It’s easy to grow content with your space once you’ve been in it for a while, and sometimes you start to forget why you loved it in the first place, which I think is what’s happened to our home at times for me. It’s like I’m seeing all the rooms with fresh eyes and I’m getting so excited thinking about how we’re going to design them.

I can’t wait to look back on this post at the end of the year and see all the progress we’ve made since this was written. Here’s to redecorating your home in 2023!!
