Will you be watching the Oscars tonight? We usually have an Academy Awards party (remember this one? How has it already been two years?), with friends and family and food and decorations, but this year we think we’re going to take it a little easier. Two out of three kiddos have school tomorrow (for one of them, it’s their first day!), so we had plans to get organized and ready for the week before quietly watching them on the sofa while the kids are in bed.
However, Thomas received a text from his sister saying: “Should we have a small Oscars party tonight?” Something about a “small” Oscars party sounds so good in this stage of life. We told her all we had were chips and salsa, so she said she’ll pick up some fruit and pick up Thomas’ mom and come over for a few hours. Maybe we’ll even bake a cake for the hell of it?
We used to go all out with Thomas’ mom making a huge spread of food and printing off Oscar ballots so we could all predict the winners. As they say though, everything changes when you have kids, and sometimes you don’t have the energy to do the things you used to. This is one of those times. Still, a quiet evening at home with a few family members and some food watching our favorite actors win big sounds about as perfect of a night as you can get.
PS: how this year’s awards show can make history.
