Day 25: Second Day in Marfa

Day 25: Second Day in Marfa

Day two of glamping in Marfa started bright and early (really just early since we were up before the sun) but we felt surprisingly refreshed and energized, despite only having about 5 1/2 hours of sleep.

There was breakfast waiting on everyone when we got up, again catered by Marfa Table, complete with eggs, bacon, sausage, homemade cinnamon rolls, and a couple different breakfast burritos.

After breakfast we all loaded onto the bus and headed to the Chianti Foundation to see it at sunrise, which is one of the best times to experience it. Have you ever been?

The Chianti Foundation is an art installation in the middle of the desert. According to their website, "The Chinati Foundation/La Fundación Chinati is a contemporary art museum based upon the ideas of its founder, Donald Judd. The specific intention of Chinati is to preserve and present to the public permanent large-scale installations by a select group of artists. The emphasis is on works in which art and the surrounding landscape are inextricably linked."

Downtown Marfa is so cute. It's filled with shops and cafes and it's where we did yoga while sipping on some wine. More on that on day three.

After lunch, we went to the iconic and infamous Prada Marfa. It's in the middle of the desert, on the side of the highway, with no signs or anything around it, so if you aren't careful you could easily drive by it without thinking twice. If you followed along on our IG stories, you saw the lowdown on this store. If not, here's a recap:

Crazy, right? While we were there, so many people drove up to take pictures in front of it. We kept thinking that, no matter how far out in the middle of nowhere something is, if it's done right and has good word of mouth, it can succeed.

The last part of our day was spent at The Hotel Paisano in downtown Marfa, which is this gorgeous old hotel and restaurant and where we had dinner on day two. When we all walked into the courtyard area while heading into the restaurant, we could feel people looking at all of us as we all whipped out our phones to snap pictures of the beautiful hotel. It was actually a recurring theme throughout the trip. What do you expect when you get a bunch of people who do Instagram all together in one place? A bunch of fast acting wrists whipping out their phones to capture life all around us, that's what. :)

Please notice how PJ (bottom right) and Chris from Yummertime (middle left) are sitting the exact same way. We had a lovely dinner and it was the perfect way to end a fun and educational day spent touring the museums and art installations. It's neat to think about how much you can learn when you go outside of your normal everyday life and experience a new, different culture.

Stay tuned for our third and final day in Marfa!
