Sand is one of the great joys of summer, because it usually means a trip to the beach and vacation and soaking up the sun. Of course, it’s all fun and games until the sand shows back up in your car cupholder three weeks after you’re back home.
While no beach trip will ever be completely sand-free, a few simple tricks can help keep it from taking over your towels, electronics, snacks, and entire vacation rental.

1. Use Baby Powder to Remove Sand Instantly
This might be the most surprising beach trick on the list. Keep a small bottle of baby powder in your beach bag or car. Before heading home, sprinkle a little on sandy feet, legs, or hands and brush it away. The powder absorbs moisture, making it much easier for sand to slide right off. It's simple, inexpensive, and surprisingly effective.
2. Turn a Fitted Sheet Into a Sand Barrier
A fitted sheet can double as a beach-day command center. Place bags, coolers, or other heavy items in each corner to hold it in place. The raised elastic edges help reduce the amount of blowing sand that ends up on towels, books, snacks, and toys. Think of it as creating a little outdoor living room right on the beach.
3. Store Phones and Keys in Zip Pouches
