We've spent a lot of time at the new house over the past couple of weeks, walking the property, dreaming up plans, and imagining what life will look like here. And between measuring rooms and making renovation lists, autumn decided to show up and show off a little.
The big trees have started turning the most beautiful shades of burnt orange and deep red, and against the open fields and old wooden fences, the whole property looks like something out of a storybook. It makes me want to put on a sweater, pour another cup of coffee, and stay outside just a little longer, even as the temperature continues to drop.
We love it here so much. And we've always loved this time of year, but experiencing our first fall here feels especially meaningful.
I keep thinking about how these same trees will look next October, and the October after that, and the one after that. How our children will grow up watching their leaves change, how we'll eventually know which trees turn first, and how one day all of this will feel so familiar that we might forget there was ever a time when it was new.
Right now, though, we're still figuring out the house. There's so much work ahead of us, soooo many decisions to make, and most likely a few surprises waiting around every corner.
But the trees don't know any of that. They're just doing what they've always done, turning beautiful colors and reminding us that there's something wonderful about change.
And I suppose that's exactly where we are, too.
Here's to our first autumn at home. 🤎
