Today is Giving Tuesday
Every year, once Thanksgiving leftovers are packed away and the kids are officially counting down the days until Christmas, I’m reminded how lucky we are to head into winter with a warm house, coats that still fit, and a sense of safety we barely have to think about. And every year, Giving Tuesday pulls me back to the truth that for millions of people around the world, winter doesn’t bring excitement. It brings fear.
As temperatures plummet, thousands of refugee families are stepping into the cold with almost nothing. Many are living without adequate housing, without heat, and without warm clothing for their children. When I first read that, it stopped me. As a parent, I know the feeling of rushing to grab a jacket for one of my kids as they run out the door. I can’t imagine facing winter with no jacket at all.
That’s why today matters so much.
This year, we’re supporting USA for UNHCR, an organization we’ve worked with for years, and one that helps displaced families survive the harshest seasons of their lives. They’re providing winter survival kits to help families stay warm, healthy, and hopeful through the cold months ahead. And on a day when the world is already paying attention to generosity, every donation made to USA for UNHCR will be matched. That means double the blankets, double the warm clothing, double the protection for the families who need it most.
I know the holidays come with their own chaos. But if you’re able, I hope you’ll consider making a compassionate gift today. Even a small donation goes farther than you think, especially with the match in place.
Refugees aren’t headlines. They’re parents trying to keep their kids warm. They’re families who had to leave behind everything familiar. They’re people clinging to hope in the middle of winter.
If we can help keep that hope alive, even just a little, then today is worth more than anything on our holiday shopping lists.
You can make a matched donation here. And if you choose to share, tag USA for UNHCR to help spread the word.
Here’s to choosing compassion today. Thank you for your time, and we’re sending you so much love. xoxoxo
