Every once in a while, the planets and stars align such that it allows us to have a night out, sans kids. It seems to be happening a lot more lately than it used to, which is a testament to our amazing friends and family who step in and help us out when we need them to. I can’t tell you why we never really asked for much help with the kids for the first few years? Was it because they were so little and we wanted to be with them 24/7 since they were still in the very early learning stages? I just remember we always felt like we had to do everything back then, and we were constantly juggling so much.

Now that our kids are a little older, we gladly let them go with their aunt to vacation bible school or spend the night at mammaw’s.

Such was the case last night. VBS is every night this week, so their aunt came by around 5:30 to take them to church for a few hours. We love this time they get with her because she is so wonderful and the kids adore her, and it always gives us a few hours to pick up the house, get some work done, etc.

Just as they were pulling away, Matt and Beau and their moms pulled in. Their moms are in town from New Orleans and last night was their last night in town, so we wanted to make sure and see them before they left. They are absolutely precious and such sweet, caring and hilarious women. I couldn’t let them leave Tennessee without squeezing their necks.

We did our hair and sprayed some cologne and made the short drive downtown to eat at our favorite local Italian restaurant. The sun was bright and warm, casting an orange, hazy glow over the entire place. The conversation was light but meaningful, and kept us laughing the entire night.
